This week I have finished what I would like to call the first draft of my documentary excluding the John Walsh interview which has yet to be filmed. I have cut and placed the different sections I would like to use which came with it's own set of challenges as I had quite a long interview to break down into quite small sections.

Whilst editing my footage I came to the realisation that one of the clips where in slow motion but, I didn't know what speed it was at so I had to spend quite some time adjusting the speed in small increments to sync it with the audio which was recorded separately. Due to the frame sampling when slowing down the footage there where skipped frame which over the course of the roughly 10 minute clip meant that even though it was in sync at the beginning the further into the clip the more out of sync it was so I cut the clip and synced it from different points to overcome this.

I figured out what caused the issue. During the interview we decided to take a break to give Orfhlaith a break and to swap out batteries. During this I took the battery out of the camera before turning it off which caused the settings to reset to default and one of those was a slow motion mode on the gh5 that slows down footage from high framerates in camera and because I didn't know what framerate it originally recorded at after the break I didn't know the number to change it to. This is a mistake to learn from in future production but luckily it was an issue I could fix in post production without any loss of quality and could still be used seamlessly.

With my first draft I had put a temporary voice over which I originally planned to just do myself but for this specific documentary It simply wasn't a good flow so right now I'm thinking on getting someone to narrate. I do have someone in mind who has a background in acting and an interest in the subject matter, so I have been in contact and hoping to find out more in the next few days.

With he first draft in place I have sent it to my composer with a simple brief as truly I want to give them a fair amount of creative freedom as they understand more about that area than myself and music choice has never been a super strong suit for myself so I would rather have someone who has expertise in that area take control.

As the weather has been pretty great as of late I have been out in Derry with my camera taking b-roll shots and specifically what I have been trying for is to get one of a police car which took a couple hours to be honest. I didn't want to just sit outside the police station or record it as I honestly feel I would get into trouble so I patrolled in the rough vicinity and did eventually get one when I gave and started heading home!

In my supervisor meeting I discussed my dissertation with Keith and I have sent him the first draft to be reviewed as I personally believe getting other peoples thoughts is important towards progressing it to where I would like it to be.
