This week I have managed to finished the first draft of my dissertation
dissertation which puts me in good footing for having a detail well crafted crafted argument by the time of submission comes around. Since this section was a lot more practice based there isn't as much references throughout which meant this part really flew by in terms of time. From this I am going to send it over to my supervisor to review and gather his thoughts and opinions and see if there's any areas in which I can improve that I may have not noticed myself, I have done this with other pieces of coursework in the past and having an outside perspective on your work is invaluable for second drafts.
For this current draft I have my table and bibliography complete and is already formatted which means I don't have to worry about it as much when the time comes. In the appendices I will include a full production folder including budget, script, treatment, cast and crew sheets, release forms, risk asement, electronic press kit and time tables. Pretty much everything I have used in the production I will add as evidence of my progress and focus on making sure everything is "done right".
week as well on Tuesday I filmed the interview Orfhlaith Campbell which turned out just as great as I was hoping for her insight and expertise on the topic she was discussing for the documentary was great alongside her charisma which was great for camera. I am very happy with the cinematography of the interview and I managed to get the lighting I was hoping for in the background using practical lights and nd filters. there was one major issue on our side which was audio as for some unknown reason on the first section which was 30 minutes the lav audio which was properly connected to the camera didn't get picked up and the camera used the in built mic. This wasn't the worst as we also had a Sennheiser mke600 shotgun mic on a stand as backup audio but it was quite quiet but experimenting with adobe premiere pro's new audio tools proved that this wasnt an issue and I was able to get this pretty awful audio sounding just as good as the lav audio from the second section which was perfect.
I was able to get release forms and everything sorted and I have made an agreement with her as I wasn't her to review her section as the interview is quite long and has to be cut down into 2 minutes I want to make sure I don't unintentionally cut it in a way that misinterprets what she is trying to convey.
Something I want to point about this footage which I recently heard from a youtube video which really stands out with this footage is with sony and canon camera's they have a very digital look whilst lumix cameras have a very filmic look which you can really see with in these still which took me by interest.
With only a month left until submission and still John Walsh's interview I'm going to make the decision to stop trying for a third interview for the supervised injecting section as Orfhalith herself did speak about this topic so I think I will use what I have and use her take on it which was great and really fits what the message this documentary is trying to present to the viewer.
