Final Project Development blog 3

This week has been the week where I have finally been able to establish and develop my film idea to a point where I am satisfied with what I am setting myself to go out and produce. I am near finishing my script I only have the outro to complete and I have planned out which types of interviews I wish to use to aid my narrative and give credibility to the documentary. As for my Dissertation I have began my initial research and have come up with the headings I wish to use and have began my introduction. I have credit this to the Rathmullan film festival on Sunday last week which through watching other short films and speaking with industry professionals gave me the inspiration and motivation the get what I needed to get done.

As for my current script which I have below I haven't been focusing on the exact shots I would like I am leaving to after to add those in, I do have some that have come to mind in but I am leaving it as a separate task which I will do hand in hand with my treatment. I have created my three act structure which I plan to use to tell my story and I am starting it off by using an example to draw in the viewer and give them context to situation as it has happened before in a different context. I am using the US prohibition of alcohol as a leading example and I will discuss the politics, social impact and history and in the main body. I want to use possibly an academic in the field to discuss the social impact drugs have had specifically in northern Ireland on communities and how people have been affected

I will use this to compare to the history of the war on drugs and that will lead to Portugal which I aim to use as my case of why change has to happen. I plan on ending the documentary by calling for change in northern Ireland and using a possible interview from a politician to discuss overdose prevention centres or safe injecting sites. Overall I believe that if I execute this script well it will be a lot more cohesive than than my pilot episode and I plan to integrate a lot more cinematic techniques to give it the "film look and feel".

As for my dissertation I have made my first draft of the introduction which is by no means going to be my final draft. It's very rough I mainly just got it written down as base to lead of when I make the second draft of my dissertation and I will be able to add or subtract from what I have down now. I have done some research relating to introduction and I do have couple references added in to develop my ideas.

I have also been adding my sub-headings for my literature review and I have narrowed down how I aim to research this question. below I am adding the research in relation to the introduction, the introduction itself and my subheadings

I found the class this week very helpful, we focused on the literature review and this is what lead me to get that part of the dissertation started, picking my subheadings to build off. I will have below some key notes I took from the class which I plan on implementing throughout my dissertation.

As for my weekly meeting with my supervisor, Keith I found it quite helpful I went over with him my ideas and what I was planning to do for my script and I explained to how him how even though it is documentary I am dong and a script is not required I find it very helpful in my creative process. he gave me some suggestion and suggested I find about 3 contributors to interview for my documentary. He was kind to suggest a person he knows personally who had suffered through addiction in his life but with his documentary society and politics is my main focus. we went quite in depth about my ideas and unfortunately didn't have time to discuss my dissertation in depth just that I had began my writing and research. At the time of writing this I have planned attending and event which I will be filming for a charity so tomorrow it's very likely I will not be able to attend the 3.45 meeting.
