As the first week semester has come to an end this is my time to reflect on what I have been up to in regards to my final project. My main focus for this week was planning and scheduling what I am going to be doing and when throughout the semester.

First thing I done was get all my files and folder in order, I plan on using my 2tb google drive as the location where I will be storing all information, research and elements to the film and dissertation. This will allow to be able to work from both my pc at home and my laptop for when and I'm on the go and when I'm not home.

I have decided early on I am going to be working on my dissertation and film side by side doing a bit of each every day of the week. I feel like doing them this way will better establish a connection between the two and link the theory and practice.

I have created my time table and I aim to have my first draft of the dissertation done by the twelfth of march which will give me ample time to refine and add more to it as I feel necessary and with the advice of my studies advisor who I plan on meeting with weekly to show my progress and my goals. As for the film I am giving myself until April to fully complete the preproduction and source my interviews and get together my production folder which I plan on using as further evidence of work towards the final film.

By organise the workload in this way I will be able to complete it in small steps whilst maintaining continuous research throughout.

As this week I have been organising my postgraduate applications and documentation I haven't started on my dissertation but I have established my dissertation question and what I have decided to focus my research on which is "How can directors integrate cinematic techniques in documentary filmmaking?". I have also been working on my documentary script which I will be using mostly as a guide on how i should be focusing my narrative and who to look for for interviews. This will help me create a cohesive story rather than creating something that feels run and gun.

This is an example, This is the first page where I have been experimenting with the idea of using actors to create a scene of prehistoric people scavenging and coming across drugs.

The last thing I have been working on this week is assembling my crew and communicating with possible people who's skills I could use in the project. I will be working with Maria Sloan as my producer to help with my production folder and Adam Martin will be my cinematographer for the interviews and other scenes. I will be using my composer Lovisa Orstadius from Sweden to create a score at some time around the rough cut. An idea I have had which I will explore further next week is to contact a friend of a friend I know who is an animator as in the pilot episode I did make some animations myself but dedicating someone to the role would increase the quality.
