My Ideas:
As I've gotten further through the module I have been coming with ideas for both my blog and for my practice piece. Since I have never created any experimental films before I think it would be in my best interest to create a practice piece beforehand and try out different techniques. Although it is my intention to use this as a practice piece it could be what I use as my final project for the module depending on the outcome and weather I come up with any more ideas between now and then.
For this project I intend to use contemporary statues, paintings, drawings and various other types of artworks by various Italian artists to create a sort of digital exhibition for say. I plan on using white canvas backdrop with each piece of art in front to film. I will be doing this to create a contrast between contemporary and modern art. Contemporary art likes to stand out by using intricate shapes and designs and darker more moody colour palates to convey an idea to the person viewing it. Meanwhile modern art that is in 2023 prefers more simple, clean almost sterile designs to convey ideas. The purpose of the film wont be to argue weather one is better than the other but rather to display the differences.
I will not be creating a narrative story in this film although I do want it to have purpose and meaning to audience and have them think about the differences and come up with their own stories and conclusions. When it comes to Camera and lighting I would like to using very unsettling and very un-natural camera angles and movements whilst using coloured lighting to remove any form of traditional lighting techniques used in modern film today. The visuals will be used to give the foundation of the idea that I wish to explore whilst I plan on using editing and the sound design to be the source of the experimental aspect of the film. Using sound to immerse the viewer into the world of art yet creating an eerie and unsettling emotion emotion is a key focus. I would like to create a sound design only using sounds sampled from the sounds that would only come from creating of art and using sound editing to turn them into something completely different.
As I have been practicing and playing around with my lighting, camera angles and colour grading I have managed to create a look for the film that I absolutely love. Some of the statues are stone and the other are made from sort of iron-copper alloy and over the years the oxidation has became this crazy beautiful mix of dark metallic colours with vibrant green-blue copper with reddish patches scattered through out. The nice freedom I had from the colour grading was the fact that I wasn't focusing on people and skin tones which normally would be a significant factor which allowed me to have a lot more creative freedom on the non human visuals.
